Food for Thought

Have you not focused on the correlation between the healthy, the criminal, and the guilty? It’s been right there in plain sight but glanced over like the homeless person you don’t want to see. For instance, why are certain “convenience” stores located where healthy options are minimum? Why they thrive in those neighborhoods and from any business calculations deemed successful? Then why aren’t they spread outside the redlines to the more privileged sectors? Even the schoolto prison pipeline, which does not exist in any privileged neighborhoods.

The privileged have steadily taken care of those that fit that bill. I will challenge you to do a little personal research. You will easily find the most unhealthy people, along with the most convicted people in the same zip codes. More so than the color of one’s own skin, is your financial reach towards Rights or Privileges. Examples, New York City, Upper East Side. Los Angeles, Beverly Hills. Chicago, Lincoln Park. Houston, River Oaks. Phoenix, Paradis Valley. Philadelphia, Rittenhouse Square. San Antonio, The Dominion. San Diego, La Jolla. Dallas, Preston Hollow. And San Jose, Silver Creek Valley. The previous mentioned have some of the lowest crime rates of any city; along with a plethora of health care options and countless healthy food choices. Along with second, third, or twenty-plus second-chances…

Within the boarders of the very same wealthy country, oh the Greatest In The Entire World is the exact polaropposite experience for other air breathing citizens. There are too many to consider, so I’ll just share a handful. Chicago/Detroit/Louisiana, high violent crime rates, including homicides and aggravated assaults. Mississippi, Jackson: violent crimes, particularly in urban areas (no surprise here with its rich tree decorating history). Alaska, Anchorage-Fairview: Despite its low population density, high rates of violent crimes, and sexual assaults. New Mexico, Albuquerque: recorded the nations highest violent crime rate in 2022. Kentucky, LouisvilleRussell: elevated violent crime rates, particularly in certain urban centers. Arizona, Phoenix- Maryvale: violent crimes, especially in metropolitan areas. South Carolina, Columbia North Columbia: higher-than-average violent crime rate, with issues in both urban and rural areas. Arkansas, LittleRock South End: significant violent crime rates, particularly in certain cities. Oklahoma, Tulsa North Tulsa: various urban regions of elevated violent crimes. Montana, Billings South Side: has seen increases in violent crime rates. Honorary mentions, these all participate in the School-to-Prison-Pipeline.

Finally, to identify several U.S. cities facing significant health challenges, as the most unhealthiest in America. Brownsville, Texas: ranks the lowest in overall health metrics. Gulfport, Mississippi: high percentage of residents with inadequate fruit and vegetable consumption with limited access to mental health counseling. Laredo, Texas: Despite having the lowest cost for medical visits, they have a shortage of mental health professionals and a high rate of uninsured. Columbus, Georgia: lowest healthcare score among evaluated cities, including premature death rates and limited insurance coverage. Shreveport, Louisiana: high percentage on physically inactive adults=low health ratings. Augusta, Georgia: tied for the highest premature death rate in the nation. Fayetteville, North Carolina: shortage of dietitians and nutritionists. Corpus Christi, Texas: low in healthcare accessibility and quality, with limited medical professionals. Detroit, Michigan: high rates of chronic diseases and limited access to quality healthcare. Huntington, West Virginia: high rates of obesity and related health conditions.

Could it be those in power won’t allow who they care about to be directly poisoned? How about policing, who receives brutality versus receiving a slap on the wrist probation, if at all? How about the locations of convenience stores, compared to health-conscious stores. There’s one thing each one of the previous paragraphs has in common. They are all orchestrated by political figures that keep getting elected and living on the fat of the land while having a completely separate lifestyle from those they represent and those that continually vote them in. The time is now to demand more from those cowards in office. It’s time to demand those with privileged-titles to the same if not higher level of accountability, as most of us who are chained to, for what they’ve already been rewarded handsomely to fail at.
