The what’s generally now considered outrageous tipping expectations in America has people boiling over. Why is it that Americans have been conditioned to just bend over and take it with a smile? As the years go by with it currently being far in the future at 2025, we’ve witnessed the boldness of IDGAF from countless business owners that refuse to handle what is there responsibility; e.g. paying your own damn employees. At the very same time as much as the professional 0.0% ownership–customers pays into this shady–genius system, then goes home to complain while nothing gets changed because once again, you just supported the greed machine.
Let’s break down a bit of some background to see how we all got here. The practice of tipping in the U.S. has its origins in Europe but took a unique trajectory in America after the Civil War. Yes the war of pure historical ignorance and zero accountability from the criminals that participated and went back to their regular tuned in programs once it ended; as mothers, fathers, CEO’s, judges, attorneys, politicians, mailmen, fireman, clergy, slave catchers, oh my bad, super brave, and non–racist honest police officers… I digress. Tipping was initially popular among wealthy Americans who traveled to Europe and adopted the customs. However, in the U.S., it became deeply tied to race and labor exploitation. (When you’re the best at something, stick with it!)
After the Civil War (of zero civility), newly freed Black workers often found employment in low–wage service jobs, such as porters, waiters, and barbers. (Because Black people are lazy right, working their whole lives to make White lives more simpler?) Many employers, particularly in the hospitality and railroad industries, saw tipping as a way to avoid paying full wages, arguing that customers gratuities should compensate workers instead of taking out of the profits from the greedy. This led to an institutionalized reliance on tipping, especially in industries that employed formerly enslaved people. (Freed the body for some, but took the minds of the many; hence, people still being thankful on Sundays for their captors.)
In the early 20th century, there was pushback against tipping, with critics arguing that it created a class divide and reinforced unfair labor practices. Some states even attempted to ban tipping. However, these efforts largely failed, and tipping became more ingrained in American culture along with its racism. America has zero problems publicly crucifying minorities that fall into the criminal world on a lower level; but turns the cheek with a blind eye to reward those that look like the original captors and their beneficiaries.
By 1938, when the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) established a federal minimum wage, tipped workers were excluded from its full benefits, further cementing the practice. What’s crazy is how the criminals of humanity never seem to realize how their deeds eventually affect their very own people. Being aligned with evil intentions for so long changes your DNA and what’s left of your fractured soul. It can be a reasonable deduction that these immoral laws were created because the racists that wrote them never thought their own kin would ever need to work a labor job needing tips, that’s only for the lazy “freed“ mental Black slaves. Today, tipping remains a crucial part of the income for service workers in the U.S., though debates over fair wages and reliance on tips continue. Frankly, the U.S. historically, it has proven that if one too many Black people can benefit, then the system will stay exactly where it is to screw over everyone. (universal healthcare)
For example, when we all went through the global/government disaster of the Covid epidemic, we were bombarded with fake commercials of companies that “care.” They cared so much and wanted everyone to know that we’re in this together, so they changed the menus. How, by Shrinkflation, they cut portion sizes down to toddler levels; then charged double plus an essential worker tax for the owners’ profits. More jobs are now automated for more owner profits; yet these greedy owners have the audacity of wanting even more by having a tip jar for simply walking into their doors. Many establishments have not changed that model and reaping the benefits of the new normal. So many companies have made record profits exploiting their loyal yet gullible customers during a time when many hard-working people lost everything. But, We The People are resilient, steadily rewarding scrupulous businesses, and complaining at the bar stool or couch. Why should anyone act shocked, Americans reelected a criminal to represent their true hearts. Takes lead by example to a whole other level.
The moral of the article is that many of us have been guided to live this way; but continuing has been a choice. We continue to allow overly paid “elected“ officials to benefit and get away with unlimited immorality along with criminal activities and then praise their names to get reelected to help screw us over more. The same thing with these immoral businesses and owner groups. Why are we allowing less than 1% of society to control how well we live. They gaslight us selling the lie of the American dream with “all you have to do is work harder, “act“ like you own the company yourself and unselfishly surrender your time and health for the benefit of the company.“ There’s too much business competition for people to keep acting unintelligent. Go to the next restaurant, or grocery store, or hardware business that offers a better value for your participation and appreciation. Stop treating this system and businesses better than you treat and expect for yourself. Or do you just like being screwed over as your comfort blanket while drowning and making you feel authentically American?
