2024 has been quite the year globally full of memorable lows and highs. I will be writing this one just like all the previous, as a conversation. I’ve learned many valuable lessons throughout this journey of life. Yet there’s one I can put on repeat and not skip a beat. That being time is the absolute most valuable thing we will ever have in this world. You will find there’s no shortage of participants that will assist you in the “fun” that can derail you and / or keep you exactly where you are in life.
I like to conduct annual audits of my life for a clearer perspective of what I claim I want for myself. My core of life evaluations are as follows and not in any order of importance: happiness meter, relationships, mental health, and physical fitness; yet none of the previous mentioned matter if my peace isn’t accounted for. For me, injured peace can drain or pull energy from any of the core of life.
For instance, how do you feel about your career? Are you excited to wake up in the mornings? Or are you just doing what you need to do? If you don’t love what you do, there’s always a different page to turn. I’m most definitely not saying a change will be easy, especially depending on where you are currently in your life. That change will initially cost you something, and that something is different for every person. The key is starting right now, just writing what you enjoy or loath about your job or career. Figure out if it can be changed where you are or if new horizons are in your future. It will require time and an investment of more education; but there’s options, and you are not stuck.
How do you feel about your physical health? Are you where you thought you would be right now? I’m not promoting any surgeries to make temporary changes. But better alternatives from some previous learned settings. You will be amazed with how we humans are designed to recharge via the Earth. Try adding a daily 30-minute walk in your schedule. Listening to the leaves, water, wind, or a combination of all three if possible while grounding yourself with the Earth. For example, parks are absolutely priceless for our health. Bonus note, laughter burns calories also so through in the occasional comedy.
How do you feel about your relationships? I’m not talking about the funny moments 1, 5, 10, even 15 plus years ago, but right now. I believe too many supply unlimited passes from accountability due to the accumulated time knowing a person. Not for me, the longer we’ve known each other means the more you should understand me as a human and my intentions on this planet. Therefore, I have a higher level of accountability for those who truly should know me. I ask, does this person encourage the best me possible? Does this person celebrate my successes or my attempts to achieve? Has this person assisted in decisions that could derail my momentum, safety, or reputation? Or does this person challenge my commitment to my personal contracts?
Let’s consider your favorite restaurant or sports team. Not many have problems verbalizing if the food or drink didn’t match what was advertised. You pay attention to the media events when the players or coaches speak on their expectations and it doesn’t come close. In either case, if you’ve invested into them, you have a right to have an opinion. With that being said, why is it so hard for people to get their very selective awareness to work while gazing into the mirror? Most of us know if we would date or employ ourselves. Just like we know if something has been accomplished to completion or advancement. When we honestly look at ourselves, there’s so much to gain and also to offer; starting with someone who’s trustworthy.
Consider making objectives instead of the overly pushed “goals….” An objective can be altered as needed, but there’s still structure to build on. Also, as a caveat from goals, it doesn’t leave the taste of failure in the mouth if the objective isn’t completed on XYZ day. You still keep it alive and acknowledge if more work is needed. We can’t keep doing the same things over and over again while expecting the universe to shift the line for us. Neither is it healthy or reliable for us to think we can emulate another person step-by-step since we are born to be unique human beings. Dig up your passions, and find out what’s viable. To hell with the arrogant people encouraging the masses to fill their egos to become their replicas. Why not start this year off being the best version of you. It doesn’t matter where you came from or even who you’ve come from. You owe you the best you have. Let’s get it 2025!
