Black Americans are often told to “move on,” but the reality is that history never stopped shaping the present. From destroyed communities and underfunded institutions to ongoing disparities, the past isn’t past: it’ still structurally present. Moving forward requires acknowledging what actually happened, not pretending the starting line was ever equal.
